Mechanics of Annihilation by Mizushyne: Painting of a pale elven woman with black hair and tiger-striped arms lunging across a white background, white fur mantle flaring behind her

Artwork

MECHANICS OF ANNIHILATION

Annihilation is not presented as an explosion, but as a mechanism already set in motion.

The figure folds through the frame like a loaded spring; hair, cloth and broken graphite pull in opposing directions while the near-empty ground strips away any sense of place. There is no visible enemy, no aftermath, no spectacle. Only the instant in which restraint has already become intent.

Mechanics of Annihilation holds that fraction of a second open.
